Service Of Remembrance – East Grinstead

This Sunday, 11th November is especially significant as it marks the centenary of the First World War.

The 11am service included the parade from King St, Act of Remembrance, singing of hymns and the national anthem accompanied by the Choir from St Swithun’s and the East Grinstead Concert Band. During the 2 minutes silence a big screen stationed on the market square showed the earlier lighting of the East Court beacon as part of the National Battles Over Beacon lighting.

The special Broadcast was presented by David Jay who provided a detailed description and narration of the events as they took place, and was produced by Neil Munday. The pogramme was also broadcast by Crawley Hospital Radio and Meridian FM in East Grinstead.

The broadcast was made possible with grateful thanks to The Royal British Legion, East Grinstead Branch, and in association with the Outdoor Sound Company.

London To Brighton Veteran Car Run: Half Way Stop In Crawley

The 122nd annual London to Brighton Veteran Car Run took place yesterday.  Susy Radio broadcast the morning’s programmes from the half way point in Crawley High Street.  Many participants, drivers and passengers wore false moustaches in support of the Movember Foundation, the official charity partner for the event to raise awareness of men’s health.  The Susy Radio team spoke to many of the drivers as they passed through Crawley.  Steve Lee asked TV presenter Alan Titchmarsh how his journey was going.

The Mayor of Crawley, Councillor Carlos Castro attended the event for the first time in his official position as Mayor of Crawley and has been a regular spectator as a resident of the town.  He spoke to Neil Munday about the event’s family appeal.

 

The first car to cross the finish line in Brighton at 10:23 am yesterday was a 1902 Oldsmobile.

Baby Loss Awareness Week

Last week was Baby Loss Awareness Week. Roxanne Cooper told Tess Lewsey how she and her fiance were devastated when they lost Oliver on March 16 2018. Roxanne says she was helped by Surrey Sands, a charity which provides support for anyone affected by the death of a baby. Surrey Sands relies on funds donated by the public and Roxanne told Tess how they are helping raise money for them.

New community pub after last orders for The Limes?

As Last Orders are called at The Limes pub in Merstham for the final time this weekend the possibilities of building a new community pub will be discussed at a public meeting next week.

Ahead of the 23rd October meeting at Canada Hall, Merstham, Tess Lewsey spoke to Mike Blacker about the plans for the future.

On The Front Foot – October’s Cricket Chat Show

It’s the last innings of 2018 for Susy’s Cricket Show with conversation and chat from Tim Bowling and David Jay plus added punditry from Chris Jacobs. There’s also a visit from Phil Ient of Outwood CC who drops in to collect the On The Front Foot Club of the Year award.
